The sound of fireworks and firecrackers is an integral part of what Chinese New Year’s all about. Some of my fondest memories from childhood was firing off roman candles from our 13th floor window. Together with my family, we would see the city of Shanghai come alive with the lights and sounds of fireworks from every household.
Creative solutions to fireworks ban
However, starting in the 90’s, due to safety concerns, more and more places now have a serious fireworks ban. Because it’s such an important part of Chinese New Years, people have come up with creative, hilarious, and environmentally more friendly ways to celebrate with the sounds of New Years.
