Instructions for beaded charm – “Crepe a la mode”

This cute beaded charm is made from the
Beads Kit Series No.3 “Crepe a la mode”
Beads Kit Series No.3 "Crepe a la mode"
Beads Kit Series No.3 “Crepe a la mode”

This is a pretty easy charm to make.  There’s no English instructions I can find on this kit, so here’s mine:

If you like it, I’m thinking of setting up a store to sell this kit and other cute Asian things that you might not be able to find easily where you live.

In case you want to make this on your own without the kit,  you’ll need:

The package says it takes 150min to make, it took me a little longer with making this post.

Step 1. Make the Crepe body

Take the light orange beads and string them together in figure 8s as shown in the picture.  That makes the first row.

Each of the 4 beads make a group, and you want 8 groups in a row.

Start and end the second row as show in the figure.

Make 6 rows of 8, then a row with 7 groups.  Note that the black arrow in the figure marks the starting point.

Note that the image is labeled with a-f and a’-f’.  keep that in mind for later.

Each row uses about 150cm length of nylon thread.  You can use a long length of thread (1050cm) to make the whole thing in one go, or you can make one row at a time so you have less thread to deal with and make it more manageable.

When you are about to run out of thread, tie a square knot.  To make everything neat and pretty, hide the ends of the knots by threading the ends of the thread back through the beads, then cut the thread near the bead.

For extra points, after you tie the knot. pull both ends of the thread through the top bead to hide the knot inside the bead.

Once you finish making the crepe, pull two ends of the thread crisscross through one bead, then thread through a and a’.

Again, add a bead by threading the ends through it, then pull the ends through b and b’.

Do the same all the way to f and f’.  Add a bead the same way as above, then tie it off.  One edge of the crepe should be longer than the other.

Thread the beads as shown in the figure.  Feel free to adjust the beads how you want it to make your own crepe.

(1) Pass the thread through the bottom of the crepe, add 3 white 7mm pearls and 1 pink 5mm pearl. Tie the top off near the edge of the crepe.

(2) Pass the thread through the bottom again, add these beads in order: 3 light orange beads (add more or less if you want the pocky bits to stick out more or less), a white 5mm pearl, 2 brown bamboo pieces, then 3 small white beads.
Skip the top small white bead, then thread though all the rest of the beads again.
Come back up, skip the first light orange beads, go through the white pearl, and thread 2 new brown bamboo pieces and 3 small white beads to make the 2nd pocky.  Skip the top bead, then thread through the 2 white beads, brown bamboos, and white pearl.  Tie the line off close to where it’s shown in the figure.

(3) Again from the bottom, thread through a white 7mm pearl, then a red crystal shaped bead and 3 small green beads to make the berry.  Pass the thread back through the red bead.  Thread through the brown 4mm pearl and the brown 3mm pearl.  Tie it off near the front end of the crepe. (Note that the figure shows the thread being tied off at the back side of the crepe roll, it looks better to have the chocolate near the front like in the picture.)
